In response to a Congressional mandate, this report released last week examines "the extent to which males and females have access to the same educational opportunities." The report gives data, primarily from NCES surveys, involving 44 indicators of equality in education opportunities, success, and outcomes. The data show that while the large gap in educational attainment that once existed between the genders has been largely erased, "women continue to lag behind males in mathematics and science achievement in high school and are less likely to major in these fields." Users are advised to print out the report or set their monitor resolution low since the print is difficult to read at standard resolutions.
