Migration of Working Children in Nepal

A project of the International Labor Organization and the Central Department of Population Studies at Tribhuvan University, this study was created to provide information on migrant child labor, as well as explore the "activities of the children by migration status." The study considered working children between the ages of five and seventeen, in both rural and urban areas. The major findings include that 29.4 percent of the working children have migrated because of economic reasons, living away from their homes for periods from six months to five years. Most migrant child laborers come from rural areas and work in other rural areas, and of all neighboring countries, India has absorbed the most Nepalese working children. The study is available online in its entirety in HTML format.
