Well known for its utility and ease of use, this OS 9-savvy program can scan your system resources, zap your machine's PRAM, and optimize your Mac for improved CPU performance. TechTool also provides information on hours of use and date of manufacture. TechTool is offered in two versions: a freeware TechTool and TechTool Pro. The Pro version ($97) boasts many of the same software and hardware maintenance features as Norton Utilities, a notable exception being the Wipe Info function. TechTool Pro also offers comprehensive testing of both hardware and software system components. Nonetheless, the basic TechTool application remains the standard for such routine maintenance tasks as zapping PRAM and deleting and rebuilding desktop files.
