The Falling Canadian Loonie

This week's In the News examines the faltering financial status of the Canadian dollar, or "loonie." The eleven resources discussed track recent economic data from major Canadian financial institutions and opinions about that data as expressed in leading North American news sources. Throughout the summer months of 1998, the Canadian dollar has fallen to new lows, closing at a record 64.86 cents to the US dollar on August 24. World-wide currency instability is considered a major cause as is Canadian monetary policy and questions of Quebec's right to secede.
