US - China Relations

Today, Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji begins his nine-day visit to the US to assuage strained relations between the two countries caused by trade disputes, allegations of espionage, and the recent NATO intervention in Yugoslavia. The Asia Society (described in the January 2, 1998 Scout Report) has prepared a new special report that compiles background information, recent news articles, and official government documents on US-China diplomacy. The report also includes supplementary material on the 1998 Sino-US Summit (discussed in the June 30, 1998 Scout Report for Social Sciences).
