Renaissance: What Inspired This Age of Balance and Order?

The newest educational exhibit to the Annenberg Media Projects Learner Online site (discussed in the September 12, 1997 Scout Report) explores this period of intellectual, political, technological, and economic rebirth in European civilization. A series of five essays examines and explains the changes which occurred in the Renaissance during the fourteenth through the sixteenth centuries. The essays are: Out of the Middle Ages; Exploration and Trade; Printing and Thinking; Symmetry, Shape, Size; and, Focus on Florence. This interactive site also allows inquisitive users to become spice traders in a role-playing game, or to take a hands-on approach to the Fibonacci sequence through a learning module called Numbers in Nature. Links relevant to the Renaissance, along with a short bibliography, provide material for further investigation into the age of balance and order.
