This new report issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) is based on a 1997-98 survey of over 120,000 students, part of an ongoing cross-national study, the Health Behaviours in School-Aged Children (HBSC). The study "looked at 11, 13, and 15-year old children's attitudes and experiences concerning a wide range of health related behaviors and lifestyle issues in 26 European countries and regions, Canada, and the United States." Released every four years, this report marks the first year of full US participation, and it reveals that, compared to other industrialized nations, America's children are less likely to smoke or watch television. However, they are also less likely to exercise frequently or have a good diet. Users can download the full text of the report in .pdf format at the site.
