For those who can't travel to The National Gallery in London to see The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Monet & Architecture (on view through July 29, 2018), Google Arts and Culture has curated Monet Was Here: an online exhibition featuring Monet's travel-inspired works from over 18 collections. The show is neatly divided into a variety of sections, such as a set of mini-exhibits about Monet's London, Paris, Venice, and Rouen paintings. In addition to Monet's paintings, there are contemporary prints and photographs showing what these cities looked like at the time, modern photographs showing today's views, and other artists' depictions of similar sites. For example, in Monet's Paris there are paintings of the Gare St-Lazare, along with a modern 360-degree view of a train station. In Monet's London, there are paintings by both Monet and Camille Pissarro showing bridges on the Thames River. Also included is an excerpt from the Monet & Architecture exhibition in the form of an interview with Rosalind McKever (Harry M. Weinrebe Curatorial Fellow). The final section of the exhibition is "6 Things You Never Knew About Claude Monet," which contains information about his life and includes a very beautiful autochrome that shows the artist in front of his house at Giverny in 1921 from the collection of Musee d'Orsay, Paris.
