The Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL) βis a consortium of natural history and botanical libraries that cooperate to digitize and make accessible the legacy literature of biodiversity held in their collections.β Partnering with the Internet Archive, these wonderful items have been brought together for consideration by the general public. All told, there are over 79,000 items in this collection and visitors can browse around by title or author or even look over the Recently Reviewed Items list for suggestions. The Most Downloaded Items list is quite revealing, as it contains some fine items such as "Fish hatchery management" and "Bergey's manual of determinative bacteriology.β Also, visitors can use the tag cloud to get started. One particularly noteworthy item is the rather prodigious volume from the 1870s titled, "Half Hours in the Far North.β It contains fascinating illustrations and observations about Russia, Iceland, and other frozen climes.
