The US Department of Housing and Urban Development's second annual State of the Cities report was released by President Clinton on June 19, 1998, in conjunction with the US Conference of Mayors meeting in Reno, Nevada. Users may download the report (.pdf format) from the HUD USER site. Progress on key urban issues such as job creation, housing, crime, and education is documented in the report. According to HUD, "although critical opportunity gaps remain in many cities, this year's State of the Cities report also documents strong economic gains that have led to an improved quality of life for city dwellers across the nation."
