The Manitoba Library Consortium and its partners have created a rich website of historically significant documents and publications so that everyone can learn about Manitoba. Even the name of the website, Manitobia, indicates its high aspirations, as the word Manitobia is the combination of the word Manitoba and utopia. Visitors will find the history of Manitoba divided up by significant events or "Historical Themes", instead of just by decades or wars. Some of the themes include "WWI: The War at Home", "Immigration and Settlement", "Manitoba Schools Question", and "Women Win the Vote". The "For Educators" link provides lessons around the six themes, for grades 4, 6 and Senior 3. The "About the Lesson Plans" paragraphs that precede the actual lessons emphasize the importance of the students understanding the "basic sequence and perspective of events", rather than just memorizing a static timeline.
