Michael Karweit of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University created this online laboratory to simulate engineering and science laboratory projects. The site is used in a course entitled What is Engineering?, a beginning science and engineering course. The experiments and exercises use JAVA to create interactive simulations. Certain experiments also include MPEG movie sequences. The virtual laboratory is under development so not all of the exercises are completely functional. Exercise topics include creating logic circuits, diffusion concentration models, underground topology, forces of bridge trusses, robotic arm control, and estimating the number of trees from a Landsat satellite image. All the exercises provide a brief introduction to the problem and some directions on running the experiment.
