This 137-page report explores trends in the performing arts over the past 30 years. Commissioned by the Pew Charitable Trusts and conducted by RAND, the study claims to be the first comprehensive overview of the performing arts in the last few decades. For the report, RAND researchers examined data on live and recorded theater, opera, dance, and music, in both the commercial and volunteer or amateur sectors. Among other things, it finds that, while the commercial performing arts have been steadily growing concentrated, live performances have been proliferating at the local level.
