The site is prepared by the Committee on Classification and Nomenclature of the American Ornithologists' Union (AOU), offers an online version of the seventh edition of Check-list of North American Birds (1998 publication), covering species from the Arctic through Panama, including the West Indies and Hawaiian Islands. Over two thousand species of birds are listed by Order, from Anseriformes through Upupiformes. The document, which covers areas within the AOU check-list area, may be downloaded as a .pdf file.
