Hosted by the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii, this recently founded free online journal claims to be "the first fully functional web-based legal journal to provide a worldwide forum for the presentation and discussion of legal, policy-based, and socio-economic issues that arise in or impact the geographic regions of East Asia and Polynesia, as well as the individual nations of those regions, and Australia." The APLPJ is a collaborative effort, involving legal scholars, economists, social scientists, professionals, law students, and translators. The inaugural issue (February 2000) features a symposium on legal education in Japan; articles on the future of UN Governance, judicial independence in Burma, and Japanese disability law; a practitioner's note on Chinese markets; as well as commentary, case notes, and the translated text of a Japanese act regarding Ainu culture. Submissions for the second edition (June 2000) are welcome, and contributor information is provided.
