Created by Matthew Zook, a PhD student in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, this site offers a number of resources related to the growth and geography of the Internet. Using bi-annual surveys of the registration address of domain names, Zook has been tracking the development of the Internet and e-commerce since 1998. While domain registration has been dispersing, Zook finds that "the US remains the primary center and urban areas around the world contain most of the Internet domain names." At the site, users will find data on US and World CONE Domain Totals and .com domains by state for July 1998, January 1999, July 1999, and January 2000. Also offered is a collection of maps charting the geography of .com domains, the density of domains, and the global distribution of domain names. In addition, users can access the full text of Zook's articles and conference papers in .pdf format.
