The National Science Foundation (NSF) and Mississippi State University (MSU) have provided the MSU/NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC) for Computational Field Simulation (CFS). The center is concerned with issues such as "regions or volumes of space within which physical phenomena vary with position and time." Examples of these physical phenomena are compressible fluid flow (airflow around aircraft and automobiles), incompressible fluid flow (flow of water past ships), and electromagnetic fields (microwave signal transmission). The research conducted at the center is organized into four areas: grid technology, computing systems, scientific visualization, and domain specific CFS applications.
