A monthly US Bureau of Labor Statistics publication, the Employment Situation presents current employment, unemployment, and labor force data from the two major government surveys, the Current Population Survey (household survey) and the Current Employment Statistics Survey (establishment survey). Specific information on the employment status of the civilian population, duration of unemployment, employees on nonfarm payrolls and average hours of production is available in addition to selected historical series with user-defined output options (1989-present). The latest Employment Situation shows that employment rose in January, but unemployment remained unchanged. Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 245,000 and gains occurred in most major industry divisions. The average hourly earnings increased by six cents.
