The Avalon Project at the Yale Law School (described in the
April 4, 1997 Scout Report), a major online repository of primary sources, has made recent additions of interest to students and teachers of American History. Colonial Charters, Grants and Related Documents is a full text collection of charters, grants, and agreements from 16 of the first 18 states (currently no documents are available for Vermont or Virginia). The texts are arranged by state and listed chronologically, the majority dating from the 17th century. Collectively, the documents offer insight into the foundation of English power and the subsequent establishment of self-government in America.
