Founded in 1989 by ornithologist David F. DeSante, the Institute for Bird Populations (IBP) is a nonprofit organization that "studies the abundance, vital rates, and ecology of bird populations to enable scientifically sound conservation of birds and their habitats." IBP focuses primarily on bird studies in North America, the Neotropical region, and the Pacific Islands.
