Today in the 1770s is a project of the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Library at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Each day, staff at the library select one article that appeared in The Virginia Gazette on the same date during the late-eighteenth century. These articles are accompanied by helpful annotations that provide additional historical context related to the selected article. The article is also accompanied by a link to Colonial Williamsburg's digital library where visitors can view fully digitized issues of the newspaper. Readers interested in learning more about early American journalism and print will want to check out the links in the learn more section.
