National Women's History Museum Lesson Plans

The National Women's History Museum (NWHM) offers this collection of lesson plans designed for middle school and high school social studies teachers. Each lesson is dedicated to a different aspect of women's history and draws on materials from the museum's online collections. For example, a lesson plan about women in early film utilizes the NWHM's online exhibition on the topic, which incorporates historic photographs. Other lessons cover women's voting rights, women who have represented the United States in the Olympics, women journalists throughout history, and the impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act on Chinese-American women. Each lesson plan includes detailed instructions and aligns with the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) standards as well as the National Council for Teachers of English (NCTE) standards.
